Wordle today news – New York Times has bought Wordle

In brief: The New York Times has bought Wordle.

The browser-based game in which you try and guess the daily word through using the letters from your previous guesses has become a phenomenon in the last month due to it having a novel way of sharing your scores on social media, and being absolutely free. Not bad for a game made to entertain one person during the lockdown.

Obviously, the news of this “low-seven figures” purchase has led to a lot of concern and speculation as to if/how The New York Times will try to monetise the game, something they’ve addressed in a typically vague corporate fashion.

Meanwhile, the game is still free. But, it seems you’ll have to play Wordle today or when the NY Times decides it is time to pay and play.

So, enjoy Wordle today while it’s free.
