PNG Minister Polye Urges Public to Check Higher Education Institutions

DHERST PNG Education News 2023: Papua New Guinea’s Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Hon. Don Pomb Polye, has urged the public to check the recognition status of higher education institutions (HEIs) before enrolling students.

Polye made the call following concerns about several private sector HEIs, particularly Teachers Colleges, not meeting mandatory standards under the Higher Education (General Provisions) Act of 2020.

“The quality of education is important for our nation’s future,” said Polye. “It is our responsibility to ensure that our HEIs uphold the highest standards.”

Polye said quality higher education institutions play a key role in developing graduates with the knowledge and skills needed for national progress. They also help to attract global attention to PNG, boost the country’s competitiveness, and improve living standards.

The Minister encouraged individuals to verify the legal operational status of HEIs with the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) before making enrollment decisions. DHERST plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of higher education in PNG.

“We can collectively safeguard the quality of higher education in PNG by working together,” said Polye. “By doing so, we can ensure that all students have access to the quality education they deserve.”
