Papua New Guinea and Philippines to Collaborate on Technical and Vocational Education

The Papua New Guinea Department of Education, Minister for Education, Hon. Jimmy Uguro, and Secretary for Education, Hon. Uke Kombra, recently met with officials from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) of the Philippines to discuss ways to collaborate on technical and vocational education (TVET).

The meeting was held on September 29, 2023, at the TESDA Central Office in Taguig City. TESDA Deputy Director General Rosanna Urdaneta was joined in the meeting by TESDA Executive Directors David Bungallon and Charlyn Justimbaste, as well as other TESDA and Papua New Guinea DepEd officials.

During the meeting, the two parties discussed ways to improve the quality and accessibility of TVET in Papua New Guinea. They also discussed ways to promote collaboration between TVET institutions in the two countries.

The Papua New Guinea Department of Education is seeking to benchmark with the technical-vocational education in the Philippines, including TESDA’s leadership of TVET in the country.
