DHERST Launches Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) for PNG Students in 2023

The Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) in Papua New Guinea (PNG) has launched the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) for students who require financial assistance for their higher education.

The program offers loans to eligible PNG citizens enrolled in Higher Education Institutions (HEI) recognized by DHERST. The study program undertaken by the applicant must be accredited by the National Higher and Technical Education Board (NHTEB) or by another authorized body.

The application timeline for HELP 2023 is divided into four batches, beginning on 20th March 2023 and ending on 31st October 2023. Applications submitted after the last batch’s deadline will not be accepted.

To apply for the HELP loan program, applicants must fulfil certain requirements. They must provide a signed HELP declaration form obtained from their institution and submit an ID document such as a Grade 12 certificate, student ID, PNG NID/birth certificate, passport, or driver’s license.

First-year students who received NOAS credentials in 2022 and had their enrollment status confirmed by their Student Data Officer (SDO) can use the same credentials to apply for HELP. The same applies to continuing students who previously applied for HELP; they can use the same credential to reapply for HELP this year.

The HEI Registrar’s office will provide the HELP 2023 timeline during the registration period.

For further information, applicants can contact DHERST Support Service at noassupport@dherst.gov.pg or visit the HELP login page https://ipng.dherst.gov.pg/.

The HELP program is a great opportunity for students to pursue higher education without financial constraints. Eligible applicants are encouraged to apply for the program and avail of its benefits.
