COMMOTION BETWEEN PNGDF & POLICE IN NCD IS UNDER CONTROL

The military has assured the public in the National Capital District that this morning’s commotion between police and army at Boroko has been contained and managed.

PNGDF Major-General, Gilbert Toropo says both disciplined forces are meeting to address the issue.
The commotion was triggered by an incident over the weekend where its alleged police assaulted an off duty soldier.

This resulted in uniform soldiers fronting up at the Boroko Police Station in search of the policeman.
PNGDF Colonel Siale Diro says police and defence hierarchy are in dialogue.
He confirmed that the soldier seen lying on the road in a video circulated on social media had fallen off a vehicle and was not shot dead.

Colonel Diro says two soldiers are in police custody and should be handed over to military police.
He confirmed that troops are confined to the Barracks with closed camps.
The situation is calm but tense, with both police and army appealing to the public to remain calm.
