Air Niugini CEO Promises Better Service with New Planes and Airports, Despite Flight Cancellations

Air Niugini’s Chief Executive Officer, Gary Seddon, has attributed recent flight cancellations to bird strikes. Seddon, who assumed the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer in March 2023, acknowledged that passengers anticipate improved services during the holiday season, with new planes and upgraded airports. However, he pointed out that bird strikes pose a significant challenge for airlines in Papua New Guinea, including Air Niugini.

“We’ve recently had to cancel a couple of flights due to bird strikes, and this is an issue we are diligently addressing… We’re collaborating with relevant authorities to identify and mitigate bird-related risks in our operational areas.” Seddon commented.

Seddon also highlighted Air Niugini’s investments in new technologies to minimize bird strikes.

“We are equipping our aircraft with bird detection and avoidance systems and developing training programs for our pilots to enhance their ability to avoid bird strikes,” he added.
